If you are in the market for an automatic pool cleaner, you’ll quickly find out that Polaris is one of the top pool cleaner brands and is highly regarded in the swimming pool industry. These pool cleaners have set the standard for many copy-cat products that have flooded the market over the years.
How Do Polaris Cleaners Work?
Polaris has several types of pool cleaners, including:
- Suction-Side Pool Cleaners
- Pressure-Side Pool Cleaners
- Robotic Pool Cleaners
However, the most popular models are the pressure-side pool cleaners.
The cleaner has wheels and a filter bag on top. It is connected to the return jet in your pool by a hose. The pressure from your pump and filter pushes water through the hose and powers the wheels so that the cleaner moves across the bottom of the pool.
It also powers little jets inside the filter bag that shoot water up through the bag in a circular motion creating a water vortex. This vortex acts as a vacuum lifting dirt and debris off the bottom of your pool and into the filter bag.
Trailing behind the cleaner is a sweep hose. The sweep hose wags back and forth kicking up any leftover dirt and debris so that it can be picked up by your filter system. At the end of the sweep hose is a little scrubber that also brushes the bottom of the pool as it moves through the water.
The Backup Valve
An important mechanical piece of the cleaner is the backup valve. As the cleaners moves around the bottom of your pool, it can sometimes get stuck on a ladder or pool stairs. In fact, it can cover the same spot in your pool over and over again.
The backup valve kicks on every once in awhile and diverts the water flow to a section of the hose. It create a powerful water jet that lifts the cleaner and moves it to another section of the pool.
